She looked up at me with those beautiful hazel eyes, the light from the sun lighting them up further. She watched me as I growled at my new victim as he struggled. Her bright smile as she watched me calmed me, drawing me over to her for a little pat on the head. I knew for a second that the two of is would never part but I was never able to find out why. All I know is that she found me in my state of desperation.
She looked down at me, the eerie glow emanating from her face. I smiled at her, wondering when this would all be over.
It had all started two years ago when I was still five. Yes, for a five year old, I am quite the scholar. My parents were filthy rich and bought me whatever I desired but never gave a rat's ass whether or not I had wanted them at home. Then I met Kora.
She had come to my vacation home, looking for work at the time. My parents instantly took her in and told me that she would be my new babysitter. I just agreed and let them off to another country in the world. I liked Kora quite a bit now that I think about it, she spent a whole lot of time with me. She didn't bother to spend money on me because I already had everything but she would always come up with some new way to play with the toys, normally extremely absurd ways but I always found them to be fun. Then the day came when she had decided to change. At the time, I had no clue why she was acting so weird but I knew that something was bothering her.
I walked over to her and tugged on her sleeve, trying to get her attention away from a piece of paper. “Hey… Why aren’t you playing with me..? I want to try making bed with the tiny cookie maker thing…”
She just looked down at me and smiled meekly. I felt my spirit waver when I saw her smile like that. I climbed onto the stool next to the counter and snatched the paper away from Kora’s hands. I skimmed it and looked up at her.
Kora,
We all know that you are living here. Stop stalling and kill the family that has caused you all this pain, then come back to us. We will take care of you and you will get what you sincerely need. Get the job done and you will be rewarded generously.
Yours truly,
XOXO
I looked back down at the note, tears starting to gather in my eyes. I gave a sniffle and pulled my best ‘I love you’ look that I could possibly pull. The look in her eyes softened and the corners of my mouth pulled slightly upwards.
“Don’t worry, sweetheart. I won’t do it. I love you.” Kora gave me her meek smile again before picking the note from my hands and crumpling it.
“Why..?”
She looked at me, surprised as she was when she was instantly accepted into the family as my babysitter. “What do you mean, why?”
“I mean why won’t you kill us? I’m just being curious.”
“Um… Is there a reason I should?”
“I don’t want to die but I really don’t care for mom and dad.”
“They’re your parents.”
“I don’t care.”
“Ok…”
A week later, I was tagging along with her on the plane, in the seat next to her while we were flying over some country I think was in Africa.
“What is that, Egypt?” I looked up at her, a finger on the airplane window.
“No, sweetie, that’s not Egypt.”
“Oh…”
I tagged along with her mainly because I thought she was so lovable. She recently found out that I was smarter than I look but then again, she always said that I was a little bit more different than any other child she ever knew.
