Being part of the Hunter College early college program prepared me for my future and the hardships that I would have to face as a true college student because there are many things that I have learned from this program that may have been impossible to learn if I were just attending high school as it is. The early college program prepared me for teachers that wouldn't give a student even a thought and would just trash their work and people who would not care for a student just so that they could succeed.
Some obstacles that I had faced during the course of the year would be that I had strayed from my academic path as soon as I lost motivation to continue working. I did eventually overcome them and that was due to the fact that I knew I wanted to get into Baruch College. I knew that with my current grades, there would be no way but if I were able to work harder, I would be able to eventually. A moment of great success that I had experienced this year would be when I found out about the many schools that had accepted me. I thought that with my grades, I would never be able to go to a decent school.
I definitely enjoyed Fiction Writing this year because I generally have always loved fiction. Some of the lessons that I thought were more important and would be useful in the future would be lessons like the point of view lesson and the lesson about subtext. Those were the more important lessons to me and I believe that I would use it more often in the future.
This year, I took the Pre-Calculus and Geography courses. I definitely liked the Pre-Calculus class more due to the fact that I learned more and I understood more. There wasn't exactly a course that I didn't enjoy because all of my courses were at least mildly interesting.
I need to continue working on my organization and my focus because if I were to end up daydreaming in class, I would miss important material and I would have a hard time catching up again. I plan on improving these skills over the summer when I am taking my Summer's Edge class.
I mostly studied in the computer lab in Hunter North this year since a lot of the material was normally found on the internet. I mostly used the computer labs and the Dolciani Math Center this year.
By being part of this early college program, I have learned that I do have the capacity for doing great work as long as I work hard. i know that I do not like to stress myself out but I always do eventually. I learned that I need to work harder if I want to make things work, no matter what the issue is.
I will be attending Hunter College in Fall 2011.
My personal goals for the future would be to complete a year or two at Hunter College and then transfer into Baruch. In about 5 years, I see myself still going to school, maybe earning my Bachelor's or Master's degree. I hope to be interning at that time. In 10 years, I believe I want to be working full-time, going to school part-time. I want to travel around a little before settling down. In 20 years, I hope that I would be able to work part-time since my husband will be working full-time. I really hope that the economy would be a little more stable by then.
I advise that the future MHSHS students to actually listen to their teachers and Holly because everything they say is true and hanging out really should be outside of the campus. People are disturbed easily so hanging out should only occur outside of the campus, not on the balcony of Hunter West and definitely not in the library.
Great work this year, Sharon.
